Painting on stone traces
it’s roots to the stone age. Examples of the stone paintings by
primitive man can be found on all of the continents they occupied. Cave
men used their art to assist in the hunt. The Egyptians adorned the
walls of their palaces and tombs with intricate images and
hieroglyphics. |

The American Indians painted
simple images on cliff faces. The ancient Greeks painted not only the
stone facades of their buildings but also the clothing and skin of their
statues. Romans painted highly detailed images on the walls of their
buildings, some remnants of which can still be seen in the ruins of
their bathhouses. Through the millennium, materials and techniques
improved along with a refinement of skills. This tradition, which
continued through the Renaissance, lives even today in the works of
Marisa Gariano |

Marisa will paint on your tumbled stone
or we can provide the stone for you. Since our pigments are
semi-transparent, dark materials do not work well. Honey Noche
travertine and Rosso Verona are as dark as we can go. |

There
are many different motifs to choose from. From ancient Greek, African or
Egyptian to renaissance Italy on to the modern styles of Gauguin and
Cézanne. |
